Abstract:
The uneven distribution of internal and international migrants across the territory of the Russian Federation is a stable factor. Migration statistics for years 2005, 2010 and 2020 shows that the number of Russian regions that are the most attractive for migrants is limited, and their list changes over time only insignificantly. In most regions, the migration balance is negative, and the outflow of population is not compensated by the arrival of refugees, internally displaced persons and persons who have received temporary asylum in Russia. In 2022 previously stable migration patterns have changed, and the value of the migration balance in the country as a whole has changed from positive to negative. The future for internal and external migration in Russia remain unclear, which determines the need to monitor and analyze migration flows in different regions of the country.
