Abstract:

Cultural heritage mapping is a relatively new area of cartographic practice. Compilation of historical, cultural and natural heritage maps of urban settlements can be considered as a task of presenting encyclopedic information that summarizes the results of a comprehensive study of a city's heritage. Currently, such maps are practically non-existent, and heritage as a special sphere of urban life, its qualitative indicator and potential for city development, is not adequately reflected. The article discusses tasks for creating such cartographic works, formulates approaches to heritage mapping; offers examples of completed maps for small and medium-sized historical cities.
